Do you like the country you presently live in?

I presently live in the United States of America. I don't really buy into the idea that it has ever been a great country, but I think it's better than a lot of other places. Despite supposedly having been built on Enlightenment principles, I think it's fairly anti-intellectual at times, and that it has historically failed to live up to its mottos.

Do you like your present country?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Yes America is the #1 greatest country to grace the God dammed earth. Even our worst presidents beat the best presidents of the 2nd and 3rd world.

I didn't even know there was a woman of the year. 🤣

There are many other things I love about living here, though! I feel there is so much opportunity in the US if you're willing to take it and work at it, and that is just one of the many things I love!

I agree I love the USA. I just love it more pre-2010 before we started getting weird.

Im supposed to be the weird one but the way of the world makes me start to feel more normal.

  • It's too dependent on cars in my opinion, and the suburbs suck. I hate that I feel increasingly like I've been taking my life in my hands just to pick up some groceries or go to work as of late. There's too many people who don't know how to drive these days, and basing everything on the automobile was just plumb stupid.

I do believe America is a great country and has been a great country in the past. A lot of the worlds biggest discoveries came from here. If it wasnt for USA we wouldnt be typing this to eachother.

I take more pride in my state and region than the whole union tho at this point. Just because of blatant corruption in the feds.

They dont sell well. Who knew?!

Doesnt matter what corporations make to serve the public. If it doesnt sell it's their bottom line that gets damages.

Capitalism sorts it out. They keep trying, they keep failing. Best they can do is wedge a charicter or two in before it starts to tank the movie or show.

I dont care what Hollywood makes.

Then again 3rd world country movies are hilarious and they get the "at least they tried reward" I find their movies endearing.

Like saving captain Alex. Budget of 200 dollars. The actors putting it in their all. Probably real ak47s because replicas are too expensive. Using watered down paint in a bar because food coloring is above their budget. Very good movie with what they were working with.

"Nation made of murder, and theft of land"

That pretty much every country on the planet to be honest.

Every country that had access to slaves used them. Every country that was powerful enough to colonize colonized. That's just how countries work, always needed to expand to live.

Stealing isnt a robbinhood affair. Stealing ultimately takes more jobs away from folks that dont steal. As well as making shit more expensive. A companies bottom line isnt going to be more charitable with people jacking their shit.

I'm against slavery. But treating america like it invented the concept is ludicrous. Thus to shit on America for it you got to shit on EVERY country that partook in it. Hint, hint. Practically every country on earth had a slavery system. Hell look to China and the middle east. Slavery is still ongoing.

As for stealing land? That stopped becoming fashionable a century ago. Established counties have established borders you are stuck with however much resources you got. So no sympathy to russia for doing so in 2014 and 2022.

        • "Stealing isn't a robbinhood affair" - says you.

"But treating america like it invented the concept..."

Literally no one is doing that here. People shit on America for it because it billed itself as being some kind of nation concerned with freedom and the rights of all men - even Britain at the time of America's formation noticed the hypocrisy.

"you got to shit on EVERY country..."

Will do. Countries suck, violence past and present is implied in the very existence of borders.

"Established countries have established borders you are stuck with..."

"That's just how countries work, always needed to expand to live."

          Reconcile the two.

I am content with it but overall indifferent. I could live elsewhere and it wouldnt bother me but i'm a person who doesn't care much for change so I like it here and see no reason to leave.

I would likely enjoy the United States more of it would stop being so hypocritical; but every country is guilty of that to some extent.

A more specific fix, however, would be for the country to start investing in public transportation. Public transportation would benefit the environment more than those awful electric vehicles and it would be more affordable for the average person.

Public transportation is for eurofags and black ppl on welfare

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • LloydAsher

Public transportation is kinda a bitch to do when you are spread out so much like america is. Then you got to contend with the companies and corporations. And then you have to negotiate with the land owners to open up new railroads that will totally decrease land value for the vast majority of those land holders.

I hear you about public transports though. Cant see how to improve it though with more busses and bike lanes. Bikes are unusable in my area for 6 months unless you replace your front bike wheel with a ski.

      • JellyBeanBandit

It's either overcast or raining for like 80% of the year. It's like the Summer lasts from June-July, and Winter lasts from October to March. 'Good weather' over here basically just means it's not raining, even if it's cold and grey. And even in the Summer the weather is completely unpredictable so you can't plan anything.
