Coronavirus lockdowns are not worth it

In my opinion, lockdowns are not worth it, since it has terrible mental-health consequences, and also economic ones.

Honestly, what do you do in the situation? If you do nothing and people die, you'll have people mad. You lock down, and they're mad about that too. I think initially, lockdowns were necessary since we didn't know much about the virus or how best to treat it. But once we knew more, I think the better thing to do would be to restrict susceptible people's movement and let the rest decide for themselves. The government could've facilitated the creation of jobs for people delivering groceries and supplies to the vulnerable but as far as I know, nothing like that happened, in the US anyway, which was super dumb since it would've helped with the massive unemployment AND helped the people who should be staying home.

I see a ton of old people who don't stay home, don't wear masks and don't stay the fuck back so it kinda makes you think, if they don't even give a shit then whats this all for at THIS point? Just open back up with reasonable safety precautions.

Like half of the people I know have already had covid and said it wasnt that bad. Everyone around here wore them at first but at this point people think its overblown since so many people get it and say its about like a cold.

Worth it at first when the virus was unknown. At this point its pointless. The death rate is so low for healthy people (far under 0.02% for healthy people) that if they want to work they should be allowed. The only people advocating for lockdowns at this point are college kids and kids that live off mommy and daddy. Havent heard one person llthats laid off that has their own house and kids supporting the lockdowns. College kids dont seem to understand that 3 $1,000 stimulus a year isnt enough to pay a house note.

this is the first time in human history we have locked down and quarantine the healthy, before only the sick were quarantine, so its not about safety its about control,, in history mask wearing has been used before to bring about control over citizens and promote communism, and lock downs are part of that control issue

It's hypocritical to close malls if supermarkets keep working and there are no social distance measures in public transport (usually there aren't since buses and tube are anyway tight even working at full capacity). Governments shall at least be consistent when mandating measures.
Also, in alleged free countries, anyone shall have the freedom what to do with their life and whether to risk it. Noisy neighbors want to party at a restaurant? Let them have it! I want to stay safe, so I'll stay home. They get infected? Possible. Force them wear masks to prevent them spreading it to random strangers. It's as simple as that. Masks shall be there to prevent the spread from those who are careless enough or By the way, did anyone ever bother to track the spread rates in Saudi Arabia, where virtually all the female population wears face cover in public? I bet they have lower rates.

Do you have a better alternative, to save people’s lives?

    • No, but who the hell cares to be honest? Mostly people in their 70s and 80s dying anyways. More important that youngsters get to live their lives to the fullest, and keep their jobs.

You’re a crass, insensitive person. And if you make it to your 70’s or 80’s, which is doubtful with your attitude, young people will probably have so little regard for your life.

Just out of curiousity, how has the lockdown effected you? Are you still employed? Do you have a house payment and kids

        • I'm 99% sure that I'll be treated like that when I'm 70. But it doesn't matter.

I agreed with you until you said that. That's just a jerk mindset. I've gotten over the fact that people die; people are going to die, and that's ultimately unimportant, but what you have said is just being a jerk to the elderly.

We shouldn't go out of our way, ruining the whole of the economy for a few people's lives; the fact that most of the people likely to die of the virus are old has no impact on anything. Whether they were young or old, it would not make a difference, but you have decided to base your decision of the morality and sensicality of the lockdown in part on the age of those at risk.
