Clothes you get as a gift

What do you do with clothes you get for your birthday and Christmas from parents? Parents never buy clothes you wanna wear but clothes they want to see you in but it feels mean to not wear them. Tbf my mother never wears or uses anything I get her almost but theres a double standard there for sure. It would be made into a huge deal if I didnt wear anything I got. I would be made to feel like a horrible ungreatful person and never stop hearing the end of it.

Is It Normal?

  • My mom bought me these awful tshirts that had random corny shit on em. The only one I kind remember said something like “you don’t want to see the Jesus come out of me” or something like that. Lol. So I rewrapped them and gave them to my friend for Christmas. She was equally as disgusted.

  • Wear the gifted clothes when your relatives visit, or when you visit your relatives, and only then. It will make them happy to see you wearing them.

    • What about living with one of your parents, then that parent will see if you never wear the clothes.

  • Don’t feel genuinely about anything someone says unless you think it is of positive use to you. If you don’t like it you don’t like it, simple.

  • I think we don't make that big of a deal of clothes in my family. What I would say, if pressed why I never wear certain outfits, is they are the wrong size, or there's never an occasion to wear them.

  • Wear them one time to wash and clean your car or house. Make sure you get a couple stains on them. Then you can wear them only as paint or work clothes.

  • Usually when I got clothes I didn't want as a kid, I would just not wear them. If I did wear them, I didn't wear them often.
