Can i re-use a cd key for a video game?

There is a video game I really want to buy, but it is over a decade old. Everyone who sells the PC version is selling the game for over 60 bucks, which is ridiculous, however one guy is selling the used version for 15. My one concern is WHETHER or not I can use the CD key again if it had been used before. I did try downloading the pirated version, which I couldn't get to work, however the pirated version provided 10 working CD keys. Can I use those keys with the non-pirated real version? And/or would I be able to use the original CD key again? I have looked everywhere and there's nowhere else to buy or obtain this game online for PC.

I've also seen sellers only selling one of the two installation CDs. In conjunction with the pirated version, I could use that for the 2nd CD and install it that way, but would the game work?

Old games always have valid reusable CD keys. You're good.

    • I realized after I wrote this that the 15 dollar game was for a different year. The one I want looks to be either 60-80...or 15ish if I buy one with only one disk. Any idea if I could use the single disk alongside the pirated version? It's my understanding that would get me through the installation and then I could use the physical disk to continue playing after that. I know some would say it's not legal, but it can't be legal to charge what these people are charging for the game either. It's sad the company just won't reproduce the game. They would make a lot of money

What part of pirating it seems to not work for you?

        • It's a cracked version. I can maneuver through all the options and pages of the game but it crashes when it gets to actual gameplay. There is a loading screen between the home page and gameplay and either right when loading begins or maybe 10% of the loading bar filling is when it crashes.

            • It is a sports game. MVP Baseball 2005 by EA Sports. Not an online game, but there are online modes that I won't be using
