  • If neither one has gone off the deep crazy end, yes.

  • I don’t care for anyone that is an extremist.

    • Every political affiliation gets too much when they are an extremist. That's why it's called extreme.

      • Sometimes when one side goes too extreme the other side has to as well to pull society back towards the center.

        • The two party system works well in that regard. Dont like how one side runs things? See how the other side runs things. As long as you dont get stuck in a rut of a supermajority there will be motivation from the politicians to do their jobs from time to time.

I dislike multiple party systems. Because 33% shouldnt dictate what the 66% do. And the numbers just get worse the more parties get involved.

But for that reason I dont concider closely affiliated parties as a seperate group. Like progressives vs democrats and republicans vs Libertarians. They tend to vote on similar grounds thus are grouped as the left or right party. Two parties but multiple groups.

          • I agree with that.

I also think if things keep going the way its going in the usa you'll have conservatives move away from the libertarian views in support of a more fascist approach on certain things.

I have no proof or studies I can cite to back up this claim but it's just what I believe and from what I have seen from conservatives on alot of political forums over the years.

            • I fear theres a worse course we are on. It's not about republicans in general but a split between both of the political parties into the true establishment. When I say establishment I don't differentiate between Republican or Democrat, they are all the same when they take the mantle of establishment.

That's what's going to be the divide. Establishment vs libertarian. Libertarians will be of the Republican and democratic moderates.

As for the progressives it seems they are voting for the establishment as much as their thought leaders are trying to portray themselves as the opposite.

Then you just got the anarchist wild card who will vote for who ever they think will do the most damage to the state. And resort to violence when they dont get their way.

  • Depends on how far right or far left,(liberal or conservative) they are. Two middle of the road with slight leaning one way or the other maybe.

20-30 years ago I would definitely say it would have been possible. There were a lot more moderates that leaned a little and could actually have a conversation about their differences without getting angry or mad at each other.

People believed everyone had a right to their own opinion and they were just that, Opinions. No right or wrong, just it was how you felt or saw things.

Today way too much hatred. Especially on the liberal side. If you don't see things their way you are wrong, a bigot, a racist, a hater. You can agree in most areas, but if you disagree with even one thing, they support, you can't be with them you are just a hater.

People here in Spain are actually getting hurt because they express their feelings for or against something.

Not right! Everybody has their own experiences and reason they believe or support certain things. Just live and let live!

    • Extremists dont work well on opposing sides. Moderates on the other hand are moderates for a reason thus share mostly the same values, just some disagreement on the finer points.

I perfer unity and polite disagreement. Than unity through total domination.

      • Funny I would have put you on the extremist side. You come across as having some pretty strong non flexible opinions.

  • It depends on what conflicting views you have. I could never be with a woman that wanted to raise our kids gender neutral. But if you're both moderate it can work.

  • I mean most people share 90% of their values with one another, most politics fight over the last 10%.

I'm I ever going to agree with my girlfriend on abortion? Probably not. Will that make me not love her. Of course not!

The point is that we share the same moral foundations and being slightly off on our opinions is completely normal since we dont think of eachother as crazy for holding said opinions.

I dont think democrats or progressives as evil, I think they are naive to a fault. Good visions for the future but from what I've seen, no real idea how to actually incorporate it into the present and future.

  • It used to be quite common for moderate democrats and moderate republicans to get married.

    • Still is. Less so than usual but still.

Males are generally right leaning while females are left leaning.

  • Yes, I’m a Republican married to a Democrat.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • My paternal grandfather was a Democrat, and my paternal grandmother was a Republican. 😊

  • That depends are they politicians or normal people?

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • A local woman who was running for family court judge as a democrat is married to a republican.
Then there's the more famous example of Mary Matalin (republican political consultant) and her husband James Carville (democrat political consultant).

I don't think I could do it though.
