Avoid doing favours

People will befriend you if they think you can be useful. Lots of friendly smiles and compliments before asking you to cat sit, loan money whatever. As soon as you stop the friendly smiles will end. When you ask a favour, they are suddenly busy. The only way is to have friends who you are of no use to, apart from pure friendship. I'm a cynical old bastard, I know, but this has been my experience.

Can't say I've ever had that problem.

Probably because I tend not to make/stay friends with shitty people.

Seems like your friends have used you. Next time they ask favors ask ffor something in return. Like if they want you to cat sit, then charge by the hour. Time is the most valuable thing in life, as is money, and if you waste one or the other you can never get that back.

You're comments make sense momwatcher69. It's just that you do something once and then it's just expected.
You can’t chase favours. They have to come to you willingly, like a cat. If someone does you a favour, great. It entitles them to nothing. True favours don’t come with a price tag. I just don't like people befriending me because I'm a retired spinster and therefore available and useful. I have a right to just eat crisps all day.

I'm 60, and my experience has generally been, that a REAL friend,, will 'offer' a favor, if they know you have a need... and I usually don't have to 'ask'. But if I need a hand, doing something which takes 2+ people, then I ask. I'm also the type to volunteer, a favor, if I know someone is in need. This doesn't apply to assholes.

Don't be cynical. There are plenty of Dicks, out there, who don't appreciate shit, but don't let them change YOUR opinion, of other people, in general. Doing a good deed, is for the benefit of the "giver", for example: charity.

If you help a stranger, and they don't appreciate it, fuck 'em. It was a 1-time, brief encounter, and in your life-span, was a "speck". For every 1 of those dicks, there are 9 other humans, who ARE thankful, when you assist them.

If you help a "friend" who isn't appreciative, then you just found out, how 'much' of a friend, they truly are, right?
