Atheists deride religion as unscientific bullshit, yet follow astrology

I am an atheist myself, but I've noticed that a lot of atheists deride religion as " superstitious bullshit ", while believing in superstitious bullshit themselves such as astrology and healing crystals. I find that massively hypocritical.

Ateists believe scientists drilled into ice and from the way its frozen can tell the carbon levels 40 billion years ago

Plenty of religious people believe that the world is, in fact, much older than 6,000 years. Belief in an old world does not imply a lack of belief in any kind of religion.

I dont understand your point. I think you are insinuating its one or the other. Like people only believe the world is 6,000 or they believe the scientists are right down to the day.

My opinion is you cant look at the layers in the rocks and tell me the earth is exactly 4.5 billion years old. I dont care how many PHDs you have. People been saying since the beginning of time they know how old the earth is but now we have some dudes with PHDs looking at the rocks and he knows EXACTLY the age. Give me a break.

I'd give you a break if you were literally retarded instead of just willfully so, but if someone gets murdered and there's an obvious bullet in the motherfucker, I'm not going to sit and say "we can't tell exactly if he was shot or stabbed." You are the one insinuating that belief in an old world is a tenet of atheism if you read your original comment. Science is primarily inductive, it uses evidence and reasoning to make claims about what is most probably the case. If you'd pull your head out of your ass and stick it between the covers of a book for a change, you'd be able to see the evidence which they have so neatly laid out for you and follow their reasoning. Nobody is just waving their PhDs around, everything requires evidence, peer review, and a fuckton of other things you haven't spent more than 3 seconds contemplating.

We know that unstable elements break down into other elements over time. We know that stars create denser elements. We know this through seeing the effects over time and drawing conclusions through math. Elements decay at a fixed rate.

Also again dinosaurs. What so god just laid some bones on the ground for shits and giggles? Its not a logical conclusion to think that bones once belonged to living animals.

You can belive god created the universe and made the perfect system of weeding out the weak animals in the world. Evolution and survival of the fittest are a fine low maintenance system of running life.

Well, it may seem far-fetched, but if they actually have good evidence for that conclusion (which is what science of course requires), so fucking what?

I mean I don't doubt that kind of science. The entire universe is old. Yet with the brand new multi billion dollar telescope it might be even older than we first thought. Lots of red galaxies, problem with abundant red galaxies is that implies the universe is WAY older than 15 billion years.

Thinking that the earth is 5000 years old is just silly. Dinosaurs, carbon residue, petrified wood, the existence of oil and coal.

I might not be able to do the math myself but I understand the mechanics of how it would be possible to figure it out. Objective reality isnt religious. God can take however the fuck long he wants developing the universe. 7 days or 7 trillion years, makes no difference.

Im sure you dont doubt it. This is why i say you're a NPC. Your opinions always align with the neocon narrative. If Foxnews told you to support Russia in the war youd be supporting russia. If from the beginning they had said the earth is flat you'd say its flat. You dont form your own opinions.

The evidence proves against the earth being only a few thousand years old. I dont believe genesis was to be taken literally.

I honestly don't understand why you think that I am some right wing shill npc. Just because I mildly disagree with you on some subjects?

If you need total compliance with your ideals to be your friend you can count me out.

Atheists are not part of a group sharing the same values. It is a word to describe people who do not believe in the existence of god. There is nothing that you can say and that is true except this that applies to all atheists.

Atheism is its own religion and follows a similar thought trajectory. Fear of the unknown causes both types of person to put whole hearted belief into a concept that helps to give a sense of order and control.

The agnostic code is the most rational by far,

We cannot know with certainty if God or Christ exists. They COULD. Then again there COULD be a giant reptilian bird in charge of everything. Can we be CERTAIN there isn't? NO, so it's pointless to talk about it.

It's fun to philosophize about existance in general.

I agree atheism at this point is just another religion stating that "science" is its creed. Science is a slow process that is subject to change unexpectedly.

I have no idea how one could test for god. But pondering if or when reality started would be a good starting point. Either way there had to be a first. Wether it's just the laws of physics or a big bearded guy in the clouds.

Jumping to conclusions about reality is religion. Atheists are jumping to said conclusion yet think they are above everyone else because they are the only ones who think they are right... oh the irony

I should put it on a shirt.

          Atheists would love it.

I would love that they didnt see the irony.

Atheists dont believe in anything spiritual, religious or non religious. If a person believes in astrology and other spiritual stuff then said person is either spiritual or pagan, not athetist.

I'm an atheist. I don't really believe in astrology. Your personality is going to be your personality no matter what your birth sign is. But I don't know, maybe it isn't all bs.

Astrology was actually considered the best science at the time when it was developed. It was replaced by most people in the world I believe about 1500 - 2000 years ago by newer science that produced better results compared to things observed in nature and affecting people and animals (it's been a couple decades since I researched this topic, so forgive me if my memory is a bit foggy).

Modern astrology is highly distorted from the original astrology science of several thousand years ago (but the modern astrology has very apparent roots in that original astrology).

I believe its just a group of people who have not learned that the key to the scientific method is that you move to better methods and theories that better predict what is being seen in the real world. IF they realize that they would quickly move past astrology and actually jump over several mid points to the current understandings, theories, and debates.

    • Astrology isn't real, it's complete horseshit. What zodiac-sign you're born under has absolutely no impact on your personality or anything.

      Btw, what's your sign?

Most people that believe in astrology merely identify as athiests but would most likely fall under a branch of paganism.
