Asking someone out but not staying in touch

A person from tinder has asked me out but he doesnt text me at all. We talked a few times a month ago then he got sick in covid and we stopped talking. I had no interest in him beyond him seeming nice I guess so I didnt care.
Then he texted me last weekend that hes sorry hes not texted me but he was sick and said he'd still like to see me so I said ok to going out for coffee and it is tomorrow we are going to meet. Only problem is he never talks to me. I have social anxiety and the only reason I go on dates is because its usually easier to sit down with someone you have had contact with in text so much that you already know each other and I find it weird that he does not bother to text me. You cant be very excited to meet someone if you avoid talking to them and hes hardly busy. Every weekend that we've texted he's said he's reading a book or watching a movie by myself so thats his life, hes not busy. Maybe hes just wanting to go on a date out of boredom? which is fair enough, most of the dates ive agreed to has been out of boredom kek.
I feel bad cancelling too, I never know how to do shit like this. He just left it on read when I agreed to going out tomorrow.

I can understand being sick with covid would prevent meeting in person and maybe even calling, but how on earth would being stuck *at home* prevent you from texting? That doesn't make sense

Some people dont like texting. Its better to meet and communicate in person anyway

    • I'm not like that if anything im the opposite of that and most people i've met has stayed in close touch up until we met. In my world its polite and anything else comes off nonchalant like you make a plan then brush that person aside until its time and you can get it over it.

Yeah that is kind of shitty you're right. Its not like you cant text or call during covid. You have nothing to do but lay around.
