Are people who use 😂 emoji making fun of me/being mean?

I keep noticing this the past year or so. It’s mostly on dating apps I’m getting people who do this. A conversation starts, I say something, then they comment on something/something I said and follow it with an 😂 emoji.

Obviously something is funny and that’s what I’m not getting. If they said LOL or haha maybe it wouldn’t be so bad or I might laugh along.

The reason I think this is because on Facebook and other sites when people post memes and status updates making fun of things in life or basically acting like someone else is stupid, haha, hence 😂😂 well you’re the smart one now aren’t you? Kind of logic.

Amiright?

Basically what it means is you're talking to someone in their teens/early 20s.

This. In the absence of body language, we tend to use 😂, particularly where we don’t have anything to say but would smile or something face to face.

The answer is yes and no.

Yes it can be used making fun on someone but no because that is depending on what the context could be.

Relax bruh it's just spicing up the conversation.

You know, like you'll comment that it's hot outside and the other person replies

Yea there some fat booty at the beach
    😂

It usually means they said something funny and amused at their own comment.

I mean yeah in that context. I get that. I’m saying when they’re commenting on something *I* did or said.

Like it was my big fat booty on the beach. 😂 Wouldn’t that be just a little insulting? Unless I was in on the joke?

I’d ask them if I didn’t understand why they used the emoji.

I doubt it, there's probably a joke you're not getting or something.

Yeah that’s why I’ve been concerned I’m possibly misunderstanding, even though my original impression was something was funny to them that wasn’t to me. Which doesn’t feel nice.

I think that combined with with 😂 would do double damage.

I like using 💁 in a ‘duh’ kind of context
