Annoying house flies won't stop bugging me.

I was in my bedroom taking a nap and got woken up by annoying house flies that kept landing on me. shaking them off won't stop them, so instead i got up and started swatting them away with a pillow case. The little buggers are bloody infuriating!!

  • I recommend one of those electric bug swats that looks sorta like a tennis racquet. There's something very satisfying about hitting a pesky fly with one of those and hearing a loud pop. The really big flies sometimes aren't killed outright and you have to deal with them in other ways, but mosquitos are literally burned to a crisp.

  • Spray them with your standard cleaning supply. The stuff you clean your kitchen counter with that smells like lemons and shit. Bonus points for spraying them mid air.

Chokes em right out and makes the house smell minty fresh.

Alternative spray with bleach if you feel particularly vindictive.

  • leave a plastic bottle about a quarter full with apple cider vineger and a few drops of dish soap out on a table for a few weeks, it should take care of any flying insects you have and in my experience it's a lot more effective than normal fly strips

  • Flies are only annoying, it's worse when a wasp manages to get in through an open window. Or those horrible creatures with long legs and wings, whatever they are called.

    • You're probably thinking of Crane Flies (commonly called "mosquito hawks" or "daddy longlegs"). They're irritating but harmless. They only live a couple of weeks at most once they reach their adult, flying form, and the most they might eat is a little pollen.

The larval stage ("leather-jackets") of some species can cause annoyance to gardeners, since they live just under the surface of the soil and munch on roots.

  • Use a propane torch - works a lot better than swatting. Their little wings disintegrate and they drop to the floor where you can finish them off.

    • Is a fly without wings still a fly?
Or does it become a walk?

    • The household i'm in won't allow that. I'd just use fly spray if i had any.

      • I'm very leery of insecticide sprays. The fact that the active ingredient basically has the same effect on insects as nerve gas has on people makes me certain that I really don't want to breathe the stuff. Humans aren't insects, but at the most fundamental level, we're not all that different.
