I grew up in a small town, a lot of people knew each other and were related, and the school board seem to be more concerned with providing jobs for the locals than with hiring the best educators for the students. For example, the principal's wife was spectacularly unqualified for the job, but got a position as a high school teacher. I'd put her and two others in the "shouldn't have been allowed near a classroom" category, but on the other hand, there were three teachers at the other extreme that I'd stack up against any teachers anywhere. So I don't think your experience is unique, or even that uncommon.

My principal in elementary school was pretty dumb. Used to get sent down there and i could argue with him til hed just tell me to get out of his office. Guy makes six figures and cant win an argument with a 3rd grader

Just because youre a teacher doesnt make you smart, at all.

Your English teacher must have been extremely dumb.

Not regular, but, a sub.. She was also a state beauty pagent runner up, and hot as hell. Guys just ogled and looked at her. As a teacher, though..She was awful. Disorganized, read from manuals, didn't really answer questions..She filled in for college prep test course once, and, other than wearing a short skirt and crossing her legs in the chair, was useless.

No, I had the dumbest history teacher for senior year. I practically taught the damn class. She was sooooooo stupid. AND she wouldn't even turn on the TV when 9/11 happened. And that was historic. It was pathetic she was employed as what she was, she shoulda been an aid and that's it

There's coming across as an ass and there's being dumb. I've had both. But the ass thing I can just ignore and focus on the content and the work. "Dumb" though is pretty annoying, when you find yourself you know better than they do. I had a teacher who was kind of dumb, but she was also kind of hot so I figured that's how she climbed the ladder.

It's normal to think your teacher is dumb. The teacher may be dumb, or not. Not sure. Need more info from this scenario, ha ha. Your perception may be right, or not.

Will any of this help you gain an advantage in this class? That's the better question.

If anything, you don't need teachers. You can teach yourself using your syllabus, textbook, some form of decent notes as an outline, and the internet. Easy enough.

Have you ever heard of the old saying, "those who can't do teach"? It does sound sort of rude and disrespectful, but in some cases with certain instructors it's true.

We had an older guy who was nearing retirement who didn't give a hoot. If you asked him a question during class he would say see me after class. Sometimes he would forget and hurry out at the end of class probably he didn't know the answer to your question. If he did stay he would fumble out an answer but it was rarely complete.
