A guy asked for my number

So theres a guy that came up to me and talked to me. He said that he’s new and we talked for a little bit and then asked for my number and so I gave it to him. Although I’ve lived here for 3 years I don’t know the American culture very much. He texted and asked if i want to hang out, although I’m not so sure i said okay.

In my country, when a guy asks for their number, a girl usually refuses at first but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like him, shes giving the message “Not so fast. You have to prove yourself first” but i heard that in America, people are straight forward when it comes to these things. when a guy asks for a girls number and if the girl says “no” that means “No. I’m not into you” end of story.

And since i gave this guy my number right away, did i give that message that I like him? I gave him my number cuz he said hes new and I thought he probably just wanted to make some friends.

Can u guys also give me an explanation why you chose ur answer? Thanks.

    He is most likely interested in you. Giving your number probably didn't tell him much other than he has a chance. It is not a big deal in the U.S.

    I also agree that playing coy games is a waste of time and somewhat cruel.

    He just hopes to get to know you better. If you end up being friends or more and you find he's not the guy for you just be up front and tell him.

    He probably likes you. So if you're not interested in him romantically, I would suggest explaining yourself and telling him that.

    Guy just wants to get to know you better. You'll find out soon enough if he wants friendship, or a relationship.

    BTW: I hate the cat and mouse game where I have to "prove" myself and talk a girl's ear off, before I get her. I'm not a gladiator kill lions to prove myself to you for your hand in marriage, nor does "Can I get your number" mean "Let's have vicious sex here and now". It means I want to get to know a girl better.
