  • There was also a bloody tsunami hitting Japan at that point. I'm no expert, but I rather think a huge wave of water may also cause atmospheric effects, like an aurora.

    Besides that, where are you getting the information that there was an aurora in the first place? If it's from any form of photograph, pictures tend to have slight auroras on them when looking at the ocean.

    As for Japan backing Korea, I'm not aware of anything of the sort happening. Japan has been one of our staunchest allies for quite some time now so this would be rather uncharacteristic.
