You notice that cold weather makes attitudes worse?

It just dipped down to the 20s the last couple of days and I noticed that alot of people around have something way up their ass today. I went around to several different stores today and I saw some bad attitudes from people that were worse than what I was seeing earlier this week when I was going out then. I know that really hot weather, people get more irritable and rude, and that alot of people seem to chill out when the temperatures start dropping in the fall when it's cool or mild. But when it really starts getting cold, like under freezing, in the 20s or less, attitudes seem to get really grouchy and tempermental again. Well that's what I'm seeing today. Also, maybe it getting closer to Christmas is some of it too, but it wasn't so bad earlier in the week, do just a few days closer to Christmas make a difference? Also, it's Friday, I don't know if that means anything though. Anyone else notice any of this that I've written on this post?

No, But I have noticed the exact opposite. It's the heat that makes people mean.

    • I think now that temperature extremes on either end can make people meaner, any weather that makes it more uncomfortable whether it's sweltering or freezing. Any weather that can harm your health in some way if exposed to it for too long (heatstroke and dehydration or frostbite and hypothermia). People are most relaxed and healthier when the weather's comfortable in the middle, 50s, 60s, and 70s.

I'll buy that. But when it's cold, people tend to stay indoors or are too busy trying to stay warm to do much fighting. Heat brings people out and also brings out their tempers. Also, people do more drinking in the heat, which just adds fuel to the fire. Or at least that's what I've seen.

        • I agree, people definitely go out more when it's hot than cold, which in itself brings out more chance for conflicts. But, when they do have to go out when it's cold, the extreme cold can make people just as uncomfortable and not shy to fuel out at someone getting in their way. This is especially true during Christmas season when the traffic is horrible with people out shopping or doing God knows what else getting ready for the holidays. As for drinking, yeh, I think people drink more when it's warm because they're less likely to want to go out to bars or to party on a Saturday night in Janurary when it's snowing verses an 85 degree Saturday on Memorial day weekend.

I reckon people get stressed out as xmas approaches: nothing to do with the weather because it's not winter here

You from the deep south? I love the way y'all say words like reckon. I also guessed you're from the south because you saying it's not winter like where you are.

Oh, I thought you may've been from Alabama or Mississippi. I've never been to Australia but like to go. I worked with a guy once who said that you all eat kangaroo steaks and koala meat down there. I told him I seriously doubt that, he didn't know what he was talking about half the time about anything.

A few of us do eat kangaroo and emu meat (I do occasionally) but I've never heard of anyone eating koala

Yes, I think I have heard somewhere of people eating kangaroo steaks, but I didn't think my friend was right on eating koalas. They're an endangered species now, aren't they? You guys call them koalas and not koala bears, right? I knew most Australians knew that calling them bears was incorrect, but I remember seeing a program once showing a sanctuary somewhere in Australia where they called it "koala bear park and sanctuary". I guess even some Australians have gotten that wrong.

Cabin fever, people just tend not to get out as much in cold weather.

I had wondered before how so many people handled the cold like 100 years ago when fewer people had decent heat and many people had to be outside more, but I'm sure most had a fire or furnace somewhere to crowd around. It was the heat back then that really gave you fewer options for relief, since there was no such thing as air conditioning yet. If people couldn't find a lake nearby to jump into or a fire hydrant in the street, there were very limited options. I know like in New York in the 1930s, I've seen those pictures of people playing in the water shooting out of the hydrants. And back in the 19th century and first couple decades of the 20th, they still had ice wagons.

The winter makes me really depressed, i donโ€™t want to leave my bed. So when i do leave it, Iโ€™m irritable and angry

    • Yes. Winter and cold makes you feel better as long as you don't have to go out.

But I was talking about people I've encountered when I go out, and they're obviously out, against their wishes. Most people have to do it, they gotta go to work, pay bills, go shopping, etc. Most people can't achieve or afford the luxury of being a hermit.

  • I feel happier when it's cold and cloudy. If it rains, I'm in Heaven!

The cold weather does, the hot weather seems to send people even madder.

    • I don't know, the attitudes seemed just as ugly when in 20s very cold as during 90 something summer heat, I guess both extremes in temperatures fuck with people's heads. That's why cool or mild weather in the middle, like 50s, 60s, or 70s, everyone seems more cool. Of course there are some fucked up assholes no matter what the weather, but it's still not as bad.

They're the people that don't have fireplaces in their houses. Nothing like a crackling fire in the bedroom fireplace. Or, soap suds in the jacuzzi in the ensuite bathroom.

Listen Plebian, I have more bedroom fireplaces than you. We have also established that you are in the 3%. A mere million dollars is only upper middle class. Don't think you are even close to my position in life.

Firstly, I'll tell you what I actually think. I think fireplaces are best enjoyed one at a time, and that I enjoy my fireplace. You enjoy your superiority which is very shallow. You inherited your money, and I beat the market. I would never trade places with you. I feel privileged to have earned world class engineering opportunities that became the accomplishments of my life, and happy that my intelligence is higher than yours. Your petty participation in the lower class discussions here suggests personal problems.

That being said, I never get laid, and I assume you never do either. Have a nice day.

Would a real rich guy be coming on here calling himself Rich guy and bragging about how rich he is?

Just a friendly suggestion. You can enjoy a fire as well. Punch holes in a rusty oil drum. Split apart a shipping pallet, and burn it. If you had even a hint of creative talent, you would be standing around your smoking oil drum celebrating your low budget adaptability.
