    So they were so addicted to technology that they couldn't look out a window to see what the weather was?

      Kinda. it was more for temperature, but just struck me as an odd first choice for checking the temp. But as kids are, they would hear, “ it is currently 65° outside” and logically proceed to want to wear shorts and a tank top.
