  • How do you test for mental strength? Physical strength will only get you so far.

    • If I need you to get a wooden panel off of me in a burning house, get two violent thugs off me, or carry me to safety with my gear attached to me, then I don't think "mental strength" is going to help, unless you're Xavier.

      • Let me asses my surroundings, remain calm under pressure, then use my cleverness to figure it out. Strip you naked and use the weight of the gear to immobilize the thugs. My kid weighs more than a wood panel. I think I can move it.

If you were struck under a tree that was on fire and no water was near, I may shovel some dirt on you and find something to use as a lever and jump on it.

Or, I could toss away my ethics and just whine about being a helpless female so you are s.o.l. But I'm not that kind of person. I may even ask for help if necessary.

        • All interesting points but not one is realistic to the post.
No amount of thinking, cunning or cleverness is going to make up for brute strength, in some very common circumstances. You aren't going to have time to even get the 60# pack off the soldier bleeding to death in the line of fire, and certainly no time at all to 'figure' something out. You either do or do not have the strength to grab the pack's straps and drag your partner out of harm's way. Same for the firefighter. Nobody said anything about a wood panel. Think an unconscious partner in imminent danger. Move him now or at least one of you perishes.

          • They are realistic to the post. Unless every situation involves the extreme, then maybe we would be in trouble. But that usually isn't the case. And you can't guarantee that physical strength is the only attribute that would be useful in all situations. Sure, yes, there are times when it sure would come in handy. But not every emergency involves the need for physical strength alone. This is why we look for a myriad of skills, not just brute.

        • Well are you going to be able to get a burning wooden beam off of another fire fighter in a burning house and think him to safety as fast as someone would lift the panel off of him and carry him to safety?

Not sure what you're meaning about stripping someone naked to immobolize thugs. How is stripping someone naked while they're being beaten up by two thugs going to help?

Are your kids also on fire while the surroundings are also on fire?

          • Well, that giant man won't do us much good if his weight crashes through the burning floorboards. Sometimes being little has its advantages. Especially when there is little room to work.

Reread what I wrote. Nakedness isn't a defense mechanism, not in this case.

Never underestimate what a mother would do for her children. In the right situation, she could move heaven and earth. In the right situation, she will be the one breathing fire.

      • Oh dear you are right

Wait, I'm writing to the government to tell them to fire all the women in police/army and send back to the kitchen.

        • I didn't know that the police and army are the only careers people could choose from.

I'm afraid you're going to have to come back with another argument, brah.
