I was in almost exactly the same situation last year when I was really broke and found a wallet with about $100 in it. From the cards it was clear the person was quite well off so I decided it was ok to keep the money.
Then I realised how guilty I'd feel spending it money so I located the person and he came and collected it and gave me a $50 reward.
Not long afterwards I found a $50 on the floor of a local shop which I thought I'd dropped, then realised later it was someone else's. I checked with the shop owner if anyone had reported it lost and no-one had so I kept it.
I've lost wallets 4 times in my life: two were returned intact, one was returned without the money and the fourth was never returned.
would you take the money?
