I would much rather 'freeze to death', since a person usually loses consciousness when the core body temperature decreases below tolerable limits (hypothermic shock).
It all depends on the extremes of temperature, however. If a person were dipped into a vat of liquid nitrogen, for instance, death would be almost instantaneous (flash freezing).
On the other extreme, a person could be instantaneously vaporized, such as in a nuclear detonation or pyroclastic flow. Dying in an event that causes first or second degree burns would be extremely painful.
