It can be painful if it went through your sysem so fast that the stomach acid didn't have time to get neutralized. A burning anus isn't really very pleasant.
Oh! I beg to differ. The last time I recall have true diarrhea, was using Easter break in 2011. I must have had a stomach flue because, I felt horrible. During the middle of the week (Tuesday or Wednesday), the flood gates were realized and all hell broke loose on the toilet. It was explosive diarrhea. I got off once thinking that I was done only to come back soon after a second time, where in which I spent roughly about six hours on the toilet. Day turned to evening and then almost night. It was terrible.
It's funny because I've never actually been in pain with just having diarrhea alone (I know that everyone's body is different), but I will admit that the only time that I've ever felt pain during the "back-door-trots" is when I was also puking uncontrollably. I recollect about fifteen years ago, my family and I ate at some restaurant and it seemed like the next day all's I did was have explosive diarrhea and puking spells for the rest of the day. I remember crying my eyes out as I was puking in the trash can and filling up the toilet bowl at the same time--I really wanted to die that day because I was so weak from dehydration, my throat was raw from puking so much, and my stomach felt like a miniature little person was in there stabbing at the walls of my stomach with a knife. The only other time that I ever experience a time just like the time that I mentioned above was the day after my friends and I got REALLY drunk, but having a hang-over along with the explosive diarrhea and explosive puking just makes it seem like hell has came to claim you.
Would you rather be Constipated or have Diarrhea?

At least diarrhea isn't painful, but it can make a person weak and dehydrated.

Bullshit! The cramps, not being able to fart and your anus rubbed raw from wiping 50 times a day is quite painful.

Not to mention that you end up spending a large chunk of the day on the loo!

Yeah when I have the runs I can't leave the house or even lift a gallon of milk for risk of drawing mud.
