Would you have a wedding or take the check?

My father offered me the option of him either paying for my wedding or giving my fiancé and I a check and we just “elope” instead.

He thinks weddings are a waste of money but he would be happy to pay for us to go on a trip/honeymoon and give us a gift in the form of a check.

I want to take the check! My fiancé agrees, just wanted to know what others thought.

  People to whom 40 grand is pocket money. You wouldn't believe how much more money is spent by my students' families when they turn 15... but I work at a 1% school. Those people are seriously rich.

How about just a nice, quaint $500-$1,000 wedding? You don't need that much money to have a wedding.
