You have to think of it logically country wise. Not personal wise. Think of countries as people. The USA is one of the biggest, toughest guys on the block. No one will mug him. But what's more is a known bro for smaller countries. If you were a country that was smaller than your neighbor or were prone to being invaded would you rather carry your money on your person or take the relativy small risk of giving it to a guy who wont be robbed and will probably give it back if you asked for it?
Me personally id give some but only a tiny minority of my money to the big guy and hide the rest and then publicly declare the big guy holds ALL of my money. Then if the big guy decides to hold my funds I still have money for a rainy day hidden somewhere.

That is what they tend to do though. We often dont hold ALL of their gold. Mostly less than half.
