  • In any cinemas I've seen in the UK you certainly don't need to pay to get in. There's a reception area where anyone can go, where you buy your tickets and popcorn and whatever at the same desk. It's nothing like you see on American films. The whole ticket office on the exterior of the building thing seems like an artificial attempt to create a sense of old-fashionedness to me - it doesn't look like it's more efficient.

    Cinema popcorn is extremely expensive, so much so that I've done the exact inverse of your idea: made popcorn at home and taken it to the cinema in a tupperware container.
