My belief is what's important is to not fake or suppress your emotion/reaction to it. Why curb how you feel based on what others think? There's a difference between being angry at someone, and communicating that something made you angry (or whatever other emotion), yet not punishing them for their transparency. Tricky, and not exactly easy to do, but there is a lot more maturity and emotional intelligence in the latter.
Would you be angry if your boyfriend asked you this?

You are right on that. We all have emotions, we cannot exactly change how we feel but we can chose how much we let slip out.
Wow this was incredibly thoughtful and a new perspective for me on the issue. Thanks
