You're not saying anything I don't know, bud. I'm in my 30's with kids, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. I think you're grossly overstepping your bounds by making such comments and not even having a kid. When you have kids, you wouldn't believe how much you change.
"People are arrested for child pornography everyday. That doesn't stop people from downloading child porn and jerking off to it everyday." ...... OK, yes, and people are arrested for murder every day. So what are you saying, we should just not prosecute people for crimes because it's going to keep happening, so what's the point? BULLSHIT.
Anyone who has solid information about pornographic underage photos and videos (especially their OWN child) and they DON'T do anyhting, is a piece of crap. As I said, it doesn't matter if one out of a thousand gets prosecuted, that's still one less person out there (even if temporarily) preying on kids.
How do I expect the police to arrest people?....and....why would anyone voluntarily get rid of the images? Well, we'd start with finding out who the images were originally sent to. We'd have proof of such from computer usage records. Pick up a couple people we KNOW had the image and create a chain. When people are in trouble with the law, they tend to cooperate if they think it will help their case. Interview the ones you KNOW had the image, look through their computers/phones and/or convince them to give up information voluntarily through an interview. Police are good at this, they do it every day. Same way how they find drug dealers-arrest a small-fry junkie, the junkie will roll on his dealer, the dealer will roll on his supplier and so on. It's a proven method. Maybe by me calling about my child, would garner enough information to get to more serious offenders. Even if it didn't, I would know I at least tried. Trying is better than doing nothing. What does it hurt to try?
I think you're the one who is misunderstanding me. You may have kids, but thinking you are more experienced and more knowledgeable because of that shares the same fault as me "overstepping my bounds".
Like i said, i don't have to have kids in order to realize the futility of something. Im not saying you shouldn't prosecute a specific person.
Like you said "Anyone who has solid information about pornographic underage photos and videos (especially their OWN child) and they DON'T do anyhting, is a piece of crap."
But that's not what were talking about. The fact is that you DON'T have evidence of ANYONE ELSE having your daughters picture. You're just upset that its floating around online. Now you may be able to arrest the initial people that had the picture, but what about the websites and private servers they posted it on? What will contacting the police do? I guarantee even if you contact the police they themselves will tell you that they can't do anything unless you know of a specific person.
But if you have no evidence and you just want to call the cops because you actually think they can do something about a picture circulating on the internet then don't hold your breath, because you're being irrational, or else every drunk girl who had her picture taken at a college party would be doing the same thing.
"How do I expect the police to arrest people?....and....why would anyone voluntarily get rid of the images? Well, we'd start with finding out who the images were originally sent to."
You really think someone would be stupid enough to accept a picture from their personal e-mail address? You really think a pedophile doesn't think these things through? It seems you're underestimating how anonymous people can actually be online.
Don't get me wrong, put all the effort you want towards this, you might get lucky. But also, pictures and videos like this don't usually get sent to private addresses, they get posted on servers that are untraceable and have anonymous IP addresses, and popular sites like Youporn or some other porn site.
Even if you have someone you KNOW had the pic in custody, if they already posted the video or pic, then you're shit outta luck. Im not telling you not to try, in the end you'll do whatever the hell you want.
I'm sorry but you commenting on this is like a blind person telling a seeing person what 'blue' looks like.
I don't misunderstand you at all, I completely get what you are saying. And I'm telling you that everything you just typed would be out the window if you had a child. Your inexperience shines through very brightly. Parents do lots of things you might currently see as 'futile' in the name of protecting their kids, but that will change, I guarantee it.
Before I had kids, I never even thought about lots of things, things that used to be non-issues or things I just didn't pay attention to all of a sudden became important and apparent. NOTHING is futile when it comes to protecting your kids. Everything you do matters. Even if you don't get the exact results you want, you still make a difference. Sometimes that difference is just between you and your child. Do you realize what a difference it would make to a young girl for her to know her dad DID something, rather than knowing he did NOTHING? I know what it feels like to have a parent do nothing about sexual abuse, it's crushing and it really affects the rest of her life.
Okay I'm just gonna clarify for the last time, just so i know i attempted to make my point very clear.
Im not saying don't do anything. If you have info that your daughters pictures are being circulated online, do all you can do to stop it. Call the police, arrest all the people who had the picture to start with. You may even get lucky and retrieve the original picture and prosecute those people who took it.
My point is this, celebrities like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian have sex tapes all over the internet that im sure they wish never existed. They spent millions of dollars suing websites and companies that distribute this material and what did they get? Nothing. If i want to i can go online and find these sex tapes right away. If they couldn't stop those tapes from circulating with all of their available resources, what makes you think you can?
I understand your point. You have to do all you can to protect your kid. Try even if it's useless. I was just pointing out the bigger picture, like lets say the pics get posted on Facebook, you should know that even if you delete your FB profile it never actually gets deleted, they still have it in their database and can bring it up whenever they want.
What if one of those FB employees is a pedophile? Forget that, even if there is no pedophile, my point is that the pic is still floating out there no matter what. But if you can nip it in the bud before it goes that far then by all means do what you can.
Would would you do as a parent?
