Would wax paper work?

So I drew a patch I made for a jacket I own. I was going to iron wax paper over it and then sew it to my jacket. Would this wax over it work or just ruin my art and start a fire?

I doubt it will work. Try melting plastic on it with a heat gun.

  I don't have a heat gun. I was trying to do similar to what you do for wax paper crayon project in kindergarten.
