I'm 18 and work at a restaurant and my boss promised me a raise from 11 to 13 dollars an hour. Then a month later, so two checks later, I realized that I had only been paid for 11 dollars an hour despite the fact that my boss said the raise would go in right away. What should I do? How can she reimburse me and will she believe me even if I already cashed the checks and can't use them as proof?

Even if you've cashed the checks, she should have a record of how much she's paid you. If she's so utterly crap at basic bookkeeping that she doesn't, then you'd be wise to look for another job since the restaurant won't be open for long.

I would suggest that you politely ask her what's going on, approaching the issue with something along the lines of, "Sorry, but it was my understanding that you said I'd be getting a raise. Did I get that wrong?"

If she flat out lies about what she promised or she lies about the hours you've been working, then you definitely should look for another job.

There is a bookkeeper probably that writes the checks. And your deposit slip or receipt from cashing it all together should be enough proof. Sometimes the boss doesnt always remember everything. Yes, there is a decent way to ask boss and remind her. She might be thinking she told bookkeeper to bump your pay. Be respectful courteous and mention it to her.

you should ask her about it, but try not to be a dickhead about it.
