I think it is a bit irresponsable to let a kid so young be by himself in a public place. It's not just about him being capable.
(Unless you feel it is a totally safe place for him to go by his own.)
I know I feel uncomfortable when boys are in there w/o my consent. I mean, hey, I dont want some boy to remember what my tits and bush look like. even if he's 3-5 he'll probably remember when hes an adult I know.bb I can remember things to this day from when I was that young.
But it it a different standard for women caring for boys than men caring for girls?
I think I will post a questions on that.
I feel childern are ok .. but as the above poster said , once they hit puberty they are basically horny little perverts.. i wont feel comfortable at all to see them in the locker room.

Soo... I'm feeling like you guys didn't like that I brought my sons in with me until they were 12 and old enough to be trusted to go into the men's locker room by themselves
Kids are pretty perverted, even at a young age. I volunteered at a place where some 2nd grade boys got caught looking at porn on a school computer. ew....
