Will the english monarchy be disbanded after queen elizabeth ii dies?

Why would it disband? To break from a thousand years of history needs a very good reason in my opinion. Or certainly a better reason than the mores of the modern day, where people are voted out in television polls which mean absolute squat.

I am not a monarchist particularly. Nor am I afraid of change. But would you really disband the Commonwealth and install as head of our new republic President Blair, or President Sugar, or President Cowell?

It's good to have someone like The Queen as an ambassador without the same political attachment that the Prime Minister has. Because they are not representative of any particular party, but the country in general, and basically serve to promote the culture of Britain around the world, they are useful to have. They are also a major tourist attraction.

That being said, I see no reason why the overall cost of the monarchy can't be gradually reduced over the years. Perhaps they should favour a donation scheme whereby those who really want to maintain the monarchy donate some money, those that aren't so keen can simply opt out / not opt in.

It is important to me though, if there is no King or Queen in the future, that there is at least an impartial ambassador without attachment to any one party, but to the UK as a whole, who can serve as a positive, peaceful 'face' or brand, promoting our ideals and strengthening bonds between our nation others through something that ISN'T a trade deal or war.

the monarchy is realy amazing.. you people in the UK dont know how lucky you are ... if you ever lost that you would realy understand that something 1000 years old has died and will never exist anywhere on earth except thailand :P

you have great ecconomic strength and stability when no one else does , you have history and tradition and so many other good things ... i think you will not enjoy your new elected scumbags in future if it got destroyed.

Abolishing the monarchy would mean abolishing the peerage and the British honours system. Never happen.
