Will machines ever run off of food like humans?

There's a lot of calories in gas, so it probably wouldn't be worth the amount of food you'd have to somehow get a machine like a car to convert into energy to run.

Does anyone think they could at least use vegetable oil rather than gas at some point?

    • That's really cool. I think vegetable oil is more sustainable and maybe more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels and coal.

There is a theoretical robot called a Gastrobot that is able to run continuously without humans ever needing to intervene to provide it with fuel because it would be able to fuel itself by 'feeding' on rotting vegetation in the wild (eg. dead leaves, fruits, etc. on a forest floor). However the energy efficiency of that kind of fuel would be so poor that it'd have to spend nearly all of it's time 'eating' just to stay operational. Still a pretty cool idea though, it'd be a huge step in creating truly independent robotic organism.

Ethanol is a choice but it causes harm to many engines designed for gas
