Think of it like pouring water into a bucket which has a hole in the bottom.
If you pour water in faster than it drains out, the bucket will over flow. This is weight gain.
If you pour water in slower than it drains out, the water level will go down. This is weight loss.
If you pour it in at just the right rate, the bucket will remain full with the same amount of water. This is what happens if you eat as much as you burn.
