Will a blood test hurt??

I used to be okay with injections, until one day at the school nurses office where I went all faint and passed out, I've since then I've been scared of them, I avoid needles whenever I can. I've had vaccinations but honestly they scare the hell out of me.
It must be 6 years since I've had a needle and tomorrow I need a blood test. I'm worried, I think I'm more worried about passing out...:/ I feel my blood pressure plumet. Anyway before having vaccinations I panic about the stuff going in cause that's what makes me weird the feel of it, but having blood taken nothing is going in only the needle.
I get tense and panic i think.
So does it hurt? Any tips or advice please.

  • They still "hurt" but it's a tiny prick and then it's over. It's only psychological.

  • Yes, it hurts! Only child birth and a bullet wound hurts more.

  • Yes! But don't watch and tell them to have you lie back. Don't get up too fast rather afterwards.

  • At my age I've ad enough of my blood taken out to feed a vampire for a year. It don't bother me. My last test took 2 big vials and 4 small ones.

  • No more than a pin prick. Tips: Look away, focus on something else in the room or think of something that will take your mind off it.

  • The trick is to make sure you have eaten and had lots of fluids before they draw blood. Also a little exercise beforehand can help too. Try not to look at the needle, just turn the other cheek. Relax, do not tense up at all. And as soon as its done, eat a snack and some drink (preferably with sugar)

  • I used to be the same. I still don't like them but I cope.

Some things I found helpful: tell the nurse beforehand that you're anxious and concerned you may faint. Don't look when they do it. If you feel you need to sit a while in the waiting area after, do so.
