I don't understand why in the United States that if you have a Spanish last name or understands the Spanish language, this means you're from Mexico. First of all correlation does not create causation and second, Mexico is not the only Spanish speaking country on the planet. Is this normal to not comprehend why people have this stereotype?
America is filled with a lot of ignorant dumbasses, who are forgetting that their relatives, at some point, were immigrates too and like most immigrates, they were met with some form of prejudices.
In some ways, should we even be surprised anymore? America has a track record of how low our country's education system has fallen. Most Americans can't even find their country on the map. Most can't even find the continent of Africa. There are some who think that it is a country. There was a question done (not on here) asking Americans to find European countries on the map. The results were pitiful and disturbing.
America used to be force to be reckoned with now. I was never proud to be a part of this country but at least there was a time when education was considered to be a top priority. Now we are uneducated fools. It's scary.
What always irritated me was how people refer to Brown Mexicans as "Latin" or "Hispanic" - apparently due solely to the fact that they speak the Spanish language.
In fact, they're no more "Latin" or "Hispanic" than English-speaking Cherokees are "Anglo" or "Germanic."
Seriously, people. Get a dictionary.
Spaniards are as European as any other.
Americans in general are the most ignorant people on this planet, for people offered a free education through age 18.
I have see some astonishing statistics relating to this, like not knowing where Canada is, thinking that Mexican is a language and anything about any country beyond their own, and pretty damn ignorant about that, as well.
I don't really understand your incomprehension at all; just look at all the complete imbeciles in this country that support the tea party!
