I have a really hard time appreciating movies made before the late 60s, because I find that the acting in those old movies are terribly unrealistic. Why is this the case?
the incessant & overbearin orchestral scores are really obnoxious
theyre in every single movie between 1930 & 1970 and every single motion the actors make hasta have some musical flourish
the musicians union mustve been some kinda strong
but anyway i was watchin paul newman in the hustler the other day and while i still like the movie people dont talk or act like that in real life then or now
It’s because the old movie studios weren’t aiming for reality. They wanted to provide the public with an escape from first the a Great Depression and secondly WWII. During the ‘50’s it was an idealized American life, not the real one.
I like the accents/the way people enunciated in those old movies. I don't hear it in a lot of modern stuff.
You just notice it more because they lack technologically advanced visual effects that take your focus off the acting. There's plenty of bad acting today.
