She could just be shy, or introverted. Not everyone likes to talk about things all the time. She might also feel more comfortable talking in one on one conversations. This is why she may be quiet at the attorneys office until you leave (which is why she stays there, so she can talk to him alone).
Another thing, some people hide their knowledge and tend to listen more than talk. Also, some people may think very deeply to themselves, but may not have the skills to vocalize it as well as others (she may actually be very smart).
