Why is money a thing? can we remove it?

Have anyone ever thought that money isn't neccesary and just is bad? That people have to be away for 7-72 hours to get money? Think of this, a world, no money, everything is free, the reward is a thanks. Seriously this may sound edgy but sometimes i like a thanks more than money. I don't know what you think but i think stress will decrease. No edgy drug deals, no bills. Sometimes these thoughts come to me. Is it even a normal thing to think about?

    No it can't work like that because there would be no products being built because no one would work. Stuff gets built because millions of people work 8 hours a day to build. If there was no jobs there would be no roads, no cars, no electricity, etc

    So how do we keep our world running? Why should we keep our jobs if we don't get money? Do we pay each other in smiles and "thanks a bunch", cause that shit don't pay the bills.

    Communism tried this garbage, making everyone equal... But the cold, hard truth is we are not equal. A doctor is not equal to a construction worker, a rocket scientist is not equal to a street sweeper. And even in a idealist regime, some people were more equal than others... Just ask politicians and the KGB.

    Love it, or hate it, money drives our world. And personally I want to have as much of it as possible to provide a safe and comfortable life for my family, myself and my closest friends.
    I don't want to share my money and I doubt you want to share yours. It's how the world works.

      You are correct. Even in the batshit crazy anarchist movements they want to implement a "point system" stupidly believing it to be something different to money. Its similar to a ration system but big surprise to no one that ration systems turn into a currency system as well because you can use extra rations to buy things. Because ration cards have intrinsic retained value such as a point card.

    Nothing would be free anyway. Currency is just for convenience. With no currency, we'd have to go back to bartering goods for services or other goods.

    Money is the physcial manifestation of both power and material buying powe, its the third option when bartering is impractical. Every advanced civilization has come upon the concept of currency.

    You see money as an object rather than the idea. That is flawed because in the American dollar its continued use is because everyone believes it will continue to be valued and its actual economic value is regulated at a slight inflation of the bills in circulation.

    I have heard of a proposed system called a 'resource-based economy', you could have a look into that. I haven't really looked into it enough yet to be able to say whether I think it's a good idea or bad idea though.
