Why is it that sometimes smart people do stupid things ?

Because we get bored. At least I do. I get bored and sometimes even when I know better I just say "Fuck it". You can't always stay back and deprive yourself from having fun just because you're smart.

Just because we're smart doesn't mean we're gonna be boring.

Dangerous stuff is still fun, just the other day I went riding a sled drug behind a mile (the vehicle) ;P It was a risk, but a calculated risk, I knew the worst I would suffer was getting a little dinged up.

And who says tattoos are stupid? They may not be your thing, but wanting art on your body does not automatically equate to stupidity.

I'd rather enjoy my time on this earth, do some stupid shit and make some mistakes (since that's a very human thing to do) than live my whole life in a box and regret it when I'm old. Better to come out in the end with some interesting scars and some good memories.

And I'm gonna be fucking awesome when I'm 80 and have tattoos. Chyeah.

Because it's fun.

Wether it's unhealthy food that's more tasty, doing drugs that alter our nature, driving fast, hanging with the wrong people...

ultimately, the answer is because it brings them joy.
Unlike "stupid" people, they MAY know better, but the reason remains the same.

Because being smart doesn't mean not making mistakes, it means learning from mistakes.

Because no matter how smart you are in one way, you're retarded in another.

Why do serial killers with 140 iq's kill people and spend the rest of their life in prison? Because smarts don't rule actions in the slightest.

I have a high IQ, but most people on here think i'm stupid or crazy or both...maybe i am...but i'm still smart. Get what i'm saying?

Since when were tattoos stupid. I always looked at them as a way of expressing yourself through art on your body. Not AT ALL what I would call stupid.

Smokingis usually a way for people to relieve stress, although it isn't healthy. But what is? Even smart people fall under stress, though, and feel the need to relieve it somehow, whether it is an unhealthy choice or not. I think everyone has driven recklessly at some point. I'm not saying it's okay, but we all make mistakes; smart or not.

I remember a twilight zone episode where a man was allowed any wish.
he wished to have the smartest mind than anyone who has ever lived.
His wish was immediately granted, at which time the man pulled out his gun and shot himself dead!

Getting tattoos has nothing to with how smart a person is. Its not self destruction, its beauty enhancement. Just an opinion of mine. Smoking is stupid, admittedly I'm a stupid smoker, but I ain't smarts. Derrrrrr *drools* where's my dribble cloth? Oh it flew out the window while i was driving wrecklessly in an attempt to evade my idiocy.

Because they're part of an inherently imperfect race of what is typically referred to as the human race. They're people. We all are.

Naw just kidding, but really I have tattoos and I make rational decisions :D (Yes, I know they're permanent. No, I won't regret them later. No, I don't care if I get old and they get ugly.)

We learn from mistakes. And if you have a problem with tattoos, then you have one with me.
