Why is it always conservatives/capitalists who resent disabled people?

I've noticed that it's always people who are very pro capitalism/right leaning that say negative things or use negative rhetoric for people who are more reliant long term, whether it be due to disability or anything else. I made it a point to mention a personal incident where a friend who had a disability didn't get a life saving organ transplant despite being referred to the hospital by their doctor. The hospital crew didn't offer an explanation, no mention of a waiting list or anything. Even if they simply didn't want to waste funds on someone who was more dependent, you'd think they'd still make an excuse, but nope. The same thing happened to my grandfather who became crippled through arthritis, denied care without an explanation as to why. I've seized the opportunity to bring these incidents up with conservatives online, in forums, video comments, Twitter etc, and not once at any point did any of them outright condemn what happened, or even ask questions about it. It was always a mixture between scummy, openly apathetic shoulder shrugging, or fake sympathy lip service where they would say "That's a shame BUT!" or "It sucks that this happened BUT!", so quick to make excuses. There was no single person to simply give a straightforward criticism about this kind of thing happening, but plenty of them had no problem with going onto bitch repeatedly about "political correctness" and the like. It doesn't seem like a coincidence.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Geo H. W. Bush was the president who signed the Americans with Disabilities Act making it the law. Neither side of the political aisle has a monopoly on morals or virtue.

Written law doesn't really cut it though. Homeless people have human rights, yet they're still homeless. It just comes across as lip service again. Like people who pride themselves on having given to a charity, but then support under funding healthcare or welfare services. I highly doubt the Bush's cared much about the average person let alone people that are on the needier end.

It sure as hell beats the way things were for disabled people before it was law. You know, things like wheelchair accessible bathrooms, public transportation, wheelchair ramps, handicap parking, etc...

Margaret Thatcher is still held up as an amazing person to the bulk of conservatives here. That alone is telling, considering that damage she did.

How does that negate that it's always conservatives that support policies that are more harmful to people in need? Where I live they're ravaging the healthcare system and make regular cuts to people's welfare. Conservatives don't have these people's welfare in mind.

For all the people discussing with LoydAsher I have 2 questions

    1. Would you force someone to give up one of their organs to be of transplant to someone else?

    2. Would you force doctors to work?

If your answer so No to both these questions then I don't get your point

Capitalism forces people to work. In dead end jobs for low pay. Also, I wasn't talking about forcing people to get rid of organs, we're talking about a service where an organ was readily available, but the person needing was DENIED it due to their status. That's discrimination.

      • LloydAsher

What was their status hmmm? You don’t know maybe it was too risky giving the person an organ maybe the person had a low immunity and it would be horrificlly dangerous to force a new organ in. Being too poor to keep up with the meds and care is also a good way to be shut out of the list. There are so many ways to not be in a good status.

And by forces people to work yeah. Hell its my belief that the primary reason everyone works is so they don’t starve/degrade/freeze to death. Plus capitalism doesn’t force you to work you can be a bum all day... it’s going to suck and you have a higher risk for dying but the goverment isn’t going to point a gun at your head and tell you to work for a McDonald’s.

There was a store in my neighborhood that closed down because they were sued by an entitled disabled person's lawyer for not providing handicap access. The shop was below street level and it was impossible to build a ramp or elevator.

If it’s for care and you are old sorry society perfers healthy adults not the elderly unless they are offering serious "reconciderment" It’s cold and the worlds a shitty place until capitalism can grow you some new organs sorry this is the next best thing To do with current resources.

Unless you wanna be like China and execute people then harvest their organs for this purpose.

Comparing is a good way to see the balance on these kinds of things now what I said seemed to be interpreted as the worst option by some people here I just made the comparison to say that there was a worse option to be taken. Now my opinion seems less evil in this context.

But it's all part of the same problem, that is putting money before people. It doesn't have to be one way or the other, and you can't make something bad sound less bad by comparing it to something else. The bottom line is, capitalism creates poverty and exploits the work force, and places money above people. Bringing up what China does doesn't change that. I don't even support capital punishment so why bring it up?

Before you bring up the Nordic countries let it be known that they have a large ass social net for any of the stragglers but there are still poor. Socialism? Well I think socialism has failed for the average person every time. Communism, don’t make me laugh. Well that was all the major economic systems that can be carried out efficiently by a goverment. The poor are poor yes but in America you are given the opportunity to fail and fail. But eventually and a little luck later you can bump yourself or your children into the next economic ring.

Bad people or shit people as in having a warrant for arrest or having a backround with crime does a toll when it comes to ones placement on the list. Having the funds also increased chances of finding a doner. Example would you rather give an organ for free to a homeless guy or to the guy who’s giving you how ever much money for a kidney (haven’t seen the going rate for a kidney these days). The only times I’m going to willfully give a kidney to someone is if one they are a family member or close friend OR someone handing over like 300,000. (Guy loves his drink)

You are anything but dealing with reality. "we deal with reality and how it can improve here without fucking out something there" Considering that you support a system that actively creates poverty and economic slavery, you're very much about "fucking out" things. Where I live the government frauds put out that people exploiting the benefits system are to blame, completely ignoring the millions they spend in checking out who's okay to work and who isn't, which A: Prevents a lot of wasted money from going to the cause it's supposed to in the first place, and B: Causes for people who aren't suitable for work to have to find jobs (and often not get employed). How does helping people in need "explode something over there"? It all comes back to the shitty system you support. Also, my question was about people not getting treatment when there was no reason for them not to, and you're going off about something else. Thanks for proving my point that conservatives are constantly distracting.

Well IamNatalie I think what randomnumbers was trying to say by explode something. They ment that anytime the federal government tries to take something over it turns to shit. Healthcare can only exsist in two states free for the companies or taken over by the goverment. This half ass government healthcare gets the worst of the worst people signing up and that only increases the premiums on everyone else. I personally rather have healthy cross border competition with these companies that drive down costs such as how phone companies work today.

How can people with no possessions put them on the line for medical treatment?

      WTF does "reconciderment" mean?
