  • What schools do is prepare us for the world of work. Things like doing pointless tasks, having all these layers of people (useless chain of command), forbidding any form of enjoyment while you are there, expected to be robots basically, dress codes, and of course the ass kissers get special recognition.

What school does NOT do is prepare one for a good career nor does it prepare anyone for the real world. Instead of teaching useless shit like trig or calculus, why not have classes about balancing a budget, checking account, etc? Instead of requiring gym, why not driver's ed? IMO that is probably the single most important thing we should be teaching our kids in and out of school - how to be safe drivers. At one point there was driver's ed in schools.

I think course on how to live on one's own would be a lot more important and interesting that sitting through some god damn literature class studying The Great Cuntsby.

TLDR - they spend more time teaching bullshit rather than things kids will actually need once they hit the real world.

      • You want to know the real funny part though? Back in school, we had this delusion that when we were adults and going to work, we would get treated as grown-ups. Boy were we wrong.

Like you go to work each day and know EXACTLY what needs to happen yet the supervisor feels the need to remind everyone what to do.

    • I had drivers ed. It was required to graduate... The system is no longer valid as these methods were used to pump out factory workers during the industrial era. Now a days its more or less kept the same to keep the masses dumb and miserable.

      • How long ago was that though? My brother had driver's ed but that was in the late 70's. I think it was optional in the early 90's when I was in high school but the price was like $500.

Also, this is in the US, is that where you are?

        • I took drivers ed in 2012. The driving portion was designed to be much tougher than at the dmv, so if you passed the driving test in school, you were exempt from taking it again at the dmv.

Not too many students passed the class driving test as the teachers really wanted to make sure you were a safe and ready driver.
