It's the only reason I voted for him.

Perhaps there are no aliens, so there are no documents to reveal.

Have you seen the movie "Unacknowledged"? Its about all the top, top secret things the government is doing. They have free energy, anti gravity cars etc that they are keeping from the public. It shows proof of U.F.O's that they are keeping from the public because they think "the people" will panic if they knew the truth, and the President doesn't know a thing about what's going on. Its a really good movie that has alot of information!!

As illogical as trump may seem he is actually not an idiot. It is entirely possible that trump doesnt have the need to know to actually aquire the Intel on it. You need both security clearance and a need to know in order to be privy to the information.

As for Trump seemingly being smarter than what he presents himself as its actually quite simple. People underestimate him if he makes himself a fool. Just the past week AOC and Pelosi were getting into massive infighting and actively started to seperate between the super far left and the moderate left. Trump when he made the comment caused Pelosi to defend AOC which exemplifies her weakness all the while the comment is just the normal trump rhetoric that will be forgotten within a week. This cohesion of both the radical and moderate portions of the left causes the true moderates to become alienated and thus slowly become acclimated into trumps field.

The official definition of an idiot used to be someone with an IQ of 25 or less, so I will accept that Trump isn't actually an idiot.

However, the consensus of everyone who's ever had to work with the guy is that he's really not all that bright. He has a certain low cunning and an instinctive understanding of how to manipulate people, but his understanding of the world is limited, as is his ability to assimilate new knowledge and his powers of expression.

As for the President not being allowed to see some classified documents, that's not true. Generally speaking, you're right about 'need to know' being the criteria for someone being allowed access to classified information. I worked with nuclear weapons during my time in the military, so I was cleared for Top Secret, but that didn't mean I had the right to see any and all Top Secret documents.

But information is classified to protect national security, and the President is in charge of national security. There are things he doesn't need to know - the identities of intelligence assets in foreign governments, for example - so he won't routinely be briefed on lots of things, but if he asked for this information he would be told.

It could be that Trump's promise to declassify information on alien encounters was just another example of the random bullshit he constantly spews in all directions. It's possible that, since he's very good at forgetting things he's said in the past, he's completely forgotten about his promise. It's also possible that his profound lack of intellectual curiosity about the world means that he really doesn't give a shit about the topic. Or it could be that such information simply does not exist.

Considering the level of your expired clearance, I'll presume you intentionally made no comment on the issue of future American military hegemony. But it merits consideration. The point is that marginal military superiority gives the longest range stability. If military capability were ratcheted up with UFO technology, a technological arms race by most countries would ensue. It is better for the U.S. to keep their antigravity (or whatever) knowledge buried for as many centuries as possible.

There is also an optimal level of military spending to maintain marginal superiority given the level of domestic economic strength. Too much spending on defense reduces growth drivers of infrastructure, as well as money available for investment in private enterprise.

In summary, hiding technology secrets by using alien fanfare works rather effectively. Trump is not smart enough to read between the lines which is just as well for everybody.
