Why hasn't my cat eating or drinking anything?

My cat is about 13 years old, and over the last 2 weeks or so he hasn't been drinking or eating a whole lot. He's gotten a lot thinner and bonier, isn't as energetic as he used to be, and has gotten more aggressive with my other kittens (who he played with before). He is both an indoor and an outdoor cat, but the last time we let him out he hadn't come back for the whole night and I went to find the next morning laying in someone's garden a block over. I've taken him to the vet and had them take a look, but the costs for a lot of it is too high. Right now my cat is just laying on a blanket on the ground with some food and water near him that he hasn't touched. I'm worried that he's going to pass soon... is there anything I can do for him?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It sounds as if your cat is on the way out and unless you get treatment for him all you can do is make sure he's comfortable and not in pain. What did the vet say?

I brought him in twice and both of the vets felt something between or near his kidneys, so they wanted to do both bloodwork and x-rays on him, but the cost is really high for that. We got him some food from the vet which is supposed to stimulate his appetite, but he only ate a small portion of it before going back to his hiding spot in the house.

Any tumours? We lost a 15 year old cat to cancer in 1999. If you don't get him diagnosed sounds like hes on hi way out.

What did the vet say? It might be cat leukaemia... I lost a cat to that in 1991.

The only thing that the vet really found was when she was doing a physical examination she had felt something near his kidneys that probably wasn't supposed to be there. My mom had a cat that had the same thing and it ended up being a tumor, but it would probably be wrong to just assume it's the same thing.
