The short answer is because those things make for interesting stories. The media doesn't like to report on "good" things or "okay" things because they're not "interesting" enough a lot of the time.
But I'm surprised you decided to make this about the "liberal" media. I would think that the more conservative view is to recognize that there are a lot of problems with the way people are treated over in those countries and that's why they're an enemy right now and why we can't let them in, etc... While the "liberals" tend to say "don't paint them all with the same brush, they're not all that way" etc.
I was watching Fox news, which I think we can agree is not liberal, last night and basically all they were talking about it how horribly women, gays, and lesbians are treated in those regions of the world. They did this to back up Donald Trump's point about why we shouldn't let those people from those parts of the world into the country right now.
If it were a liberal agenda, they would more likely be reporting on women being mistreated in this country (America) rather than overseas. But if they are smart, liberal media will keep its mouth shut, especially right now, about any issues with people in that part of the world.
