Why do they call it 'candy bars'? its not candy iin?

So ever since Grade one at school, I've always been shocked and confused whenever they called chocolate bars 'candy bars'. I honestly don't understand why the word 'candy' is used. Chocolate isn't candy! Candies are hard and round, chocolate is dark and melts and tastes like cocoa.

Does this have something to do with being Malaysian?? Maybe grammatical backgrounds?

Candy to me is almost anything they'd give out on Halloween in the states. So chocolate chips are not really candy cuz they wouldn't pass that out on Halloween. But M&Ms are, because those are given out on Halloween. But a snickers, Twix, Reeces, or butterfinger are candy bars IMO. This is a US definition of candy... pretty much anything sweet, to include chocolates.

I think the British think of candy only as the hard round crystallized sugar treats. This is probably where the confusion lies for you. Hope this helps.
