Why do people need to use drugs and drink?

I'm in my early 30s (female). Only have 2-3 drinks a year (if that). Never have done drugs...meth, cocaine, cigarettes, fentanyl, heroin, not even Marijuana.

Survived high school and college.

Why do people need to use these? I'll never understand why people can't get ahold of their use.

Is It Normal?

  • They are trying to escape/avoid problems in their lives. Often not realizing the drugs and alcohol will inevitably make things worse.

  • There are as many reasons as there are people but the main ones are insecurity, painful experiences and even heredity.

        • This is encouraging people to do drugs and drinks, which is already a serious problem. Millions of families and lives are destroyed by drugs and drinking and you encourage that shit? You're scum.

  • Let me get this straight. You insert yourself into a conversation that has nothing to do with you, now you want me to go away? You started talking to me first. Don't argue if you can't handle an argument. Besides, you know I'm right, which is why you have nothing left to say. Hilarious!

  • Screw tweekers you knew what the drugs did and did them anyway you'll get no sympathy from me you bunch of thieves

  • SometImes its hereditary. Sometimes it’s to release trauma. Sometimes its people, music and culture they’re influenced by. Sometimes they’re restless or bored with one reality, one state of mind. Sometimes it’s to numb physical pain. The list goes on.

  • Ha. I always thought similarly until my job stressed me out so bad I started drinking every day. Luckily I don't have the genes to be alcoholic but I can sure see how easily it might happen.
Most people who do drugs and drink heavily are trying to escape something. That I'm sure of. Try not to judge too harshly .

  • Idk maybe people choose ways to cope with things because they don’t know how to outside of that to their liking?

  • Alchoholic, benzo, weed smoker here, with a bit of purprle drank occasionally, and because if you can moderate yourself on them then they're fucking great.

I've been doing drugs since 14 and tbh I've noticed that 9/10 people can keep a lid on it. Sadly I am not one of those people lol.

  • Same, I don't like not being sober.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I'm the same as you, I rarely drink and have never used drugs.

I'm guessing peer pressure plays a big part in it, as well as some people feeling they need to be under the influence in order to cope with their issues. Of course, sometimes when it starts out just being a social thing to fit in, it can spiral into addiction with some people.

I've also noticed that a common train of thought with young people is that drinking makes you more "adult". It's like some of them just want to be seen with a drink in their hand (not at all saying that this is why all young people drink, just something I've noticed with some of them). I've been heavily pressured at events to drink more because they thought I "wasn't having enough fun" as well. I was, it's just that my idea of fun isn't acting like a drunken fool, getting sick, and then dealing with a hangover the next day. 🤣

I can't say as much about drugs, as I haven't spent a lot of time around people who do them. Of the people I've known that have been mixed up with the wrong crowd and gotten on drugs, there always seemed to be a personal issue (or multiple) at play that they were trying to cope with. I've known alcoholics like this as well.

  • I'm not talking about the drinking, loser. I'm talking about the drug part. And that's funny coming from you. Shitty human beings like yourself are definitely not the happiest. All of you are a community of degenerates, trolls, and bigots. Hell, a couple of you are rapists and p*dos. Might as well say this website is a hub for mentally disturbed fucks. Quit projecting.

    • Theres a difference between a reason and encouragement. OP asked for a reason and I gave one. I dont care if someone takes it as validation for drug use. That's a them problem, not mine.

      • You literally encouraged people to use drugs because "life sucks". That's exactly what you were saying. Because "life sucks" using drugs is a solution. And wtf!? It WOULD be your fault if someone took that as validation to abuse drugs. I see you lack accountability.

        • Zero accountability here. Drugs are a solution, so is alcohol. Moderation is key. No hard drugs but you cant OD on weed. A drink now and then doesnt hurt as long as you dont drive.

If I tell someone to jump off a bridge will I be accountable? Of course not, it's a fucking bridge, common knowledge says not to do it. Stupidity is a killer.

          • Drugs are never a solution. I like how you deny ever encouraging drug abuse, but here you are telling people that drugs are the solution to their problems. Oh yeah, makes total sense.🙄

You're encouraging someone to kill themselves, so yes! If they do it, you are 100% accountable for their death. It has nothing to do with stupidity. What's stupid is for you to encourage it in the first damn place. You're just an ignorant piece of shit.

  • How am I gonna listen? We're on the fucking internet. And I read what he said. He's encouraging people to abuse drugs because "life sucks". I don't see how my interpretation is "outrageous" because that's exactly what he meant. You can honestly go fuck yourself.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Because I get shaky and my heart speeds up if I stop drinking too abruptly.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Not really. He's basically encouraging people to abuse drugs because "life sucks". And why are you quoting something you know you made up? I know the effects of drug abuse, so I would never abuse drugs, thank you very much.

  • I was addicted to caffeine for a while. Addiction is intense, I can't imagine how hard it is for people stuck in the pleasure loop of some substances to get out. Especially ones that have a stronger hold on your physiology. And especially ones that doctors prescribe. But many people can enjoy alcohol and marijuana responsibly without it causing problems.

If you don't want to try them, then don't. If you want to truly understand why people become addicts, there are lots of books on the topic.
