I'm biracial (black and white with other ethnicities so, if you want to be really specific, I'm multiracial). I know that I am biracial but, my family keeps telling me that the world only sees black. I find this rather dismaying since, I don't look black. To make matters worse, growing up, my maternal family (they're mainly black) tried to force me to identify as being black, shamed me when I didn't, and made my white side to be evil. So, there's a lot of environmental racism from biracial people's family's. Now, I don't even view myself as biracial, just human because, I don't/can't identify with any of the ethnicities in me. But if someone asks me, I'll be honest with them.
Why do mixed race people call themselves black?
