Why do i get urges to abuse my pet?

I have a hamster, and when i handle him i get urges to squeeze him or choke him. I hate this, i have stopped handling him and even tried to lock his enclosure to prevent me from abusing him. Its really hard, i dont know what to do about it, and i dont understand it.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I think everyone does, it’s just an intrusive thought.

It sounds like you’ve got anger issues that you needed to work on. Get help or get rid of the animal before you hurt it.

I think it shows a lot of pent up anger. You need to explore this, because you’ll express it in other ways, even if you get rid of the animal.

There are studies on this! Cute aggression is a thing, but if you think you may be taking it too far, you should definitely rehome him. Here are some resources for you to check out.

These are just a few. Look up "cute aggression" and you'll get a lot more.

I feel like I've read something similar to this here before.

When you say you get urges, is it more like intrusive thoughts where random horrible thoughts come into your mind and you quickly mentally scold yourself, or is it an actual strong urge you have difficulty holding back?

If you fear you will hurt your hamster, I think it's best to find him/her a new home. If it's intrusive thoughts you know you would never act on that you quickly force out of your mind, those are actually pretty common, and if you have OCD you may experience them even more than the average person. Just make sure you know the difference and are not putting your hamster in danger.

    semi-normal
on one hand, its normal to have intrusive thoughts, one twitter once someone asked if they get bad thoughts randomly that are outright illegal, plenty of responses, almost all said yes, even I have had thoughts like this with my friends stuff and my dog, but I never feel worried afterwards because I know I wouldn't do it

on the other hand, to make preventive measures on yourself to make sure you wouldn't actually do it is concerning, implying to yourself that you could and would do it. If you truly wouldn't, though, then just keep handling your hamster well

I think you’d have better luck with something more local like Facebook or craigslist. You should rehome home for free.

imagine a higher power with no consequences who watches yalls life and could flick you dead

imagine all them religious jerks who ape doin the right thing just so they git some imaginary eternal reward

now just imagine balancin yalls walk down the train track rail doin the right metaphorical thing and bein good as you can cause you can and its harder to do especially when a speedin train might come

theres no rewards or accolades but its still the right thing

Please don't reenact this, abuse is illegal. You could also be sent to prison for that.
