Most guys do not like "the chase". Personally if a girl shows disinterest in me, I immediately lose interest. I wouldn't want to be around somebody who doesn't value my company.
You did describe another problem though. The description of your behavior sounds overly emotionally unstable, clingy, needy and extremely desperate. Very few behaviors will annoy the average man more than those qualities.
That is why he is showing more interest when you are not bothering him with your desperation. People like somebody they can enjoy things together with and have a good time.
We all have problems, so there comes times when people develop relationships that they share the unpleaant sides of each other and show support, but that is not something that you want to focus on when meeting a new person. You will chase them away.
