Why do feminists keep silent about the position of women in Islam?

  • "Well, let's be honest, the Bible has said similar things"

    Certainly, I'm not denying that.

"yet most religious males do not see themselves as above women."

That's called hypocrisy. It's better than if they really were sexist of course, but hypocrisy sure isn't great either.

"If we were to say this is the case for what you said, then we'd have to admit it is the case with Christians, too."

Unfortunately, Muslims (in general) seem to ACTUALLY follow their sexist teachings, whereas Christians (in general) don't.

    • I wouldn't call it hypocrisy, there are many parts in certain religions not every person in that religion abides by, and it is the same with Muslims. We can't just base what they are like on what we are shown on TV, you can't generalize Muslims to say they are this way while saying Christianity is not, as you have experience with Christians, she has experience with Muslims.

Yes, but I WOULD call it hypocrisy though. If you believe your God is PERFECT - like Muslims do with Allah - you CANNOT disregard some of the rules of his book, simply because you don't like them. It makes you a hypocrite.

"We can't just base what they are like on what we are shown on TV"

No, but there are plenty of other sources of information as well, as you know. Are you saying ALL these sources are worthless, just because we don't live in Islamic nations (yet)? Are you denying that MANY Islamic societies are RAMPANT with barbaric sexism? If so, you are SERIOUSLY deluded.

"you can't generalize Muslims to say they are this way while saying Christianity is not, as you have experience with Christians, she has experience with Muslims."

I spoke of Muslims IN GENERAL and of Christians IN GENERAL. That leaves enough room for Muslims and Christians who are different. Besides, what do you know of my experiences?
