The thing is, it's not "pushing another body ideal", but rather a solution to make everyone feel included. Sure, fat isn't healthy, there's plenty of cardiovascular problems that come with it, but it's not a reason to exclude fat people from the media.
Also, there's plenty of people attracted to fat people. Why couldn't they have a "visually appealing" representation too?
I get the feeling included part; there's just been such an upsurge in it recently, and I know that some of the obese models believe and push the body positive "fat is beautiful" kind of thing. I was just curious as to if women nowadays genuinely think it's an attractive thing. From what people have said, and the result of the poll though, I think you're right and it is to be more inclusive. I think we've reached the point in the West where a large section of society has just given up on not being obese, and are thus more secure with seeing those types of adverts on tv.
"Also, there's plenty of people attracted to fat people." I genuinely don't know any guy who are into fat girls; I'm a 23 year old guy, and I've never in my life known a guy who's openly into that. Not exaggerating; I know some people have that fetish, but it really is a super rare fetish; I've even heard a few guys talk about piss fetishes as well, so I don't think it's just they're worried about saying they are.
Yeah, I think you're right about the "visually appealing" part for sure, but that's what I kind of didn't understand. I think those people who they're advertising to though find it visually appealing; which I suppose is successful as advertising is concerned.
Why are there so many fat women in adverts?
