Why are people suddenly labeled old at 30 ?

  • I don't quite understand what you are asking. I have never considered 30 to be old and don't know who would. I am on the cusp of turning 30 and I can tell you that I am much more mature than when I was in my early 20s though. As far as being an adult I think that the average 27 or 28 year-old would have more in common with a 30 year-old than a 22 year-old.

I think people become "real" adults once they become self-supporting. The age this happens obviously depends on when you leave home and completely support yourself. For some this happens early and others later.

I became self-supporting at 22. Even though I was an adult then I am much more mature at 29. I'm sure that when I'm 42 I'll be able to look back and say that I am more mature than when I was 29. This probably continues until we die. You continue maturing and changing for your entire life.

    • You're exactly right - we do continue maturing over the years. 30 is certainly not old! Though I would like to say that I wouldn't want to accept advice from anyone on this site who was a lot younger than 30, who still lived at home with mom and dad, and who really hadn't even started living.

I try to advise users so that they don't look back years later and realise they have humiliated themselves or done irreparable damage to their lives. Very easy to do when you're young and foolish, under 30 ;o)
