SS will be fine for many years to come if people would just leave it alone. It is the ONLY US government system that actually functions as it was designed to. It is healthy and very far from having anything to do with the budget.

As for the NWS, if I did my job half as well as they do theirs, I'd have sunk every vessel I ever operated, twice, before I even got it out of the slip, so no argument there either.
I'm aware of the USPS and the blunders there, but a great deal of their problems followed the rise of the internet.

Considering I circumnavigated under sail from 1970-1979 (before gps), it is likely I could find my way without gps, loran, omega or any other form of electronic navigation. If it really takes YOU three hours to reduce a sight for one LOP, then you don't get much sleep, since you can't have a FIX (position) without three of them.
You are a perfect example of how a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous. You obviously THINK you know a lot more than you do about my world.
